Maintenance and Care

DO NOT put in a dish washer or submerge in sink water.

DO NOT use in an oven or microwave. DO NOT use as a hot plate for SUPER HOT frying pans or pots.

Periodically, when board looks or feels dried out, or appears and feels “thirsty”, clean the bd thoroughly, then after dry, apply a rubbed on coat of “Ledge Rock Wood Balm”, Let stand for 60 minutes, wipe off excess balm with a clean soft cloth, then let stand overnight for curing. The amount of time between wood balm conditioner applications depends upon usage and how often the board is washed with soapy water.

Always apply wood balm to all sides and edges, applying the wood balm to only one side will lead to uneven “breathing” of the wood and could lead to eventual warping.

DONOT attempt to condition the board using cooking oils such as vegetable oil, olive oil etc., as these oils will eventually get rancid. Use ONLY Mineral Oil(food grade) based conditioners.

Extended UV light can change the color appearance over time and the vibrant wood colors, when new, will become darker.

To clean minor or insignificant food prep soiling(Veggies or other relatively dry foods), wipe board off with a clean damp cloth or dry paper towel.

To clean significant food prep soiling(bacon, meat grease, fish oil, concentrated fruit juices, etc), give a squirt of dish soap on the board, place board under warm/hot running water, then gently scrub the board clean, but DO NOT submerge in a sink full of water. After washing, wipe down with a clean cloth or paper towel, removing all excess water, and let fully dry , standing up on its edge, whereby both the top and bottom will dry evenly, helping to avoid warping.

Simple Cleaning

To clean significant food prep soiling(bacon, meat grease, fish oil, concentrated fruit juices, etc):
a) Using a scraper or paper towel wipe off all food prep particles into the sink or garbage, then
hold the board under warm running water, wetting down the entire surface, front and back.
b) Give a small squirt of dish soap on the dirty, wet, board surface, then gently scrub the board
clean, using a sponge/scrubby, being sure to go over/scrub the entire board area. Once you
have all debris cleaned off, hold the board under the warm running water again, rinsing off
all soap and suds, rinsing both sides, front and back.
