Cutting & Charcuterie Board Conditioning Care
Periodically, depending upon how old or how often a cutting or Charcuterie Board is washed, your board may begin to look or feel dried out, or dull in color. When this happens, it may be time to “Condition” your board using Ledge Rock Wood Design “Wood Balm”. Wood Balm is made with Food Grade Mineral Oil and Beeswax.
DO NOT condition the board using cooking oils such as vegetable oil, olive oil etc., as these oils will eventually get rancid. Use ONLY Mineral Oil(food grade) or walnut oil based conditioners.
Extended exposure to UV light can change the color appearance over time and the vibrant wood colors, when new, may become darker.
Clean First
The Board must be thoroughly clean and dry before any wood balm is applied.
Apply Balm
Using a clean cotton cloth, apply a liberal rubbed on coat of “Ledge Rock Wood Balm” to the entire area(front, back & sides), giving a concentrated application to the main cutting surface. Spend a few minutes rubbing the wood balm into the wood grain, going with the grain and also across the grain.
Let It Sit
Let the board stand for a minimum of 2 hours, giving the balm a chance to soak in and penetrate the wood grain.
Wipe Off Excess
Wipe off all excess balm with a clean, dry, soft cloth(a different cloth from the one used to apply the balm), rubbing and buffing the board surface thoroughly. Be sure to rub and buff the entire surface, front, back and edges. There ought to be no wood balm paste left on the board surface, when you are finished.
Allow To Cure
Let the board stand overnight for curing, allowing air movement around the entire board. The board is now ready to use again.
When To Condition
The amount of time between Wood Balm conditioner applications depends upon usage and how often the board is washed with soapy water
